Base : open the image you want to frame, select all (CTRL + A), go to 'selection' menu,'Modify','Contract'. Contract by 5 pixels.
Go to 'Selection','Invert' (CTRL + SHIFT + I). Add a new layer and fill the selection with a color of your choice. Deselect.
You now have a simple border of 5 pixels around your picture. Use a border width (number of pixels) adapted to your picture.
I used 5 because I have to have a basis to work :) . It is on this border that we will apply effects.

Tip : To see the effect of a filter on your picture, check both preview boxes.

First Effect (PSP 8 only)

Go to 'Effects','Artistic effects','Halftone'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • Halftone pattern in round;
  • Size;
  • Pattern color;
  • Opacity.

  • Second Effect (PSP 8 only)

    Go to 'Effects','Distortion effects','Lens distortion'.
This works best with a perfeclty square image.

When your image is not square, you will have to adapt the settings and use a rotating mirror effect

For a vertical rectangle, use this setting :

you will obtain something like this :

Now go to 'Effects','Reflection effects','Rotating mirror' to mirror the interresting part.

For a horizontal rectangle, use this setting :

you will obtain something like this :

Now go to 'Effects','Reflection effects','Rotating mirror' to mirror the interresting part.

    Third Effect

Go to 'Effects','Distortion effects' (Geometric effects for PSP7),'Spiky Halo'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • Amplitude
  • Frequency (try 20 lol)
  • Radius (up to 10) It is also funny to add a shadow (Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow), offset vertical and horizontal to 1, opacity 100, blur 5, color of your choice.

  • Fourth Effect

Go to 'Effects','Distortion effects' (Geometric effects for PSP7),'Wave'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • Wavelength (both horizontal and vertical simultaneously)
  • Edge mode You can double the effect by adding a colored shadow (Effects, 3D Effects, Drop Shadow), offset vertical and horizontal to 1, opacity 100, blur 0, color of your choice.

  • Fifth Effect

    Go to 'Effects','Geometric effects','Circle'.

    Sixth Effect

    Go to 'Effects','Texture effects','Blinds'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • Width
  • Color If you want, you can apply the effect twice, once with 'horizontal' checked and once with 'horizontal' unchecked (or the other way round lol).

  • Seventh Effect

    Go to 'Effects','Texture effects','Fine leather'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • color (try black instead of white for example)
  • transparency (modify it violently, by step of 50 for example :) Try 0,150 and 255 )
  • number of furrows (reduce it rather than increase)

  • Eighth Effect

    Go to 'Effects','Texture effects','Mosaic - Antique'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • Grout width
  • Grout diffusion (when grout width is low)

  • Ninth Effect

    Go to 'Effects','Texture effects','Mosaic - Glass'.
To obtain other effects with the same filter, change :
  • Number of columns (steps 20 by 20)
  • Glass curvature (Try 100 and number of colums to 25)
  • Edge curvature (either you change the edge the same way as explained for the glass and so you set the glass curvature to 0, or you set both curvatures to same value (better effect when number of column is minimum (25), but then you are doing a grid, no more a frame lol) )

  • Tenth Effect

    Go to 'Effects','Texture effects','Tiles'.
This is the neatest setting I found for a frame, but you can change everything you want with this filter.
A small advice, if you are not familiar with this filter, experiment the settings category by category. It works a bit like the cutout...

Remember that you can also add a colored shadow and/or apply a cutout effect.
